Föredrag i morgon. Presentation to morrow.

I morgon kväll så ska jag hålla ett föredrag om nattskärra i Strängnäs för deras fågelklubb och jag hoppas det blir ett välbesökt möte. Det brukar bli många frågor som jag får svara på i samband med mina föredrag och det ser jag som att intresset för denna fågel är ganska stort hos fågelskådarna och en del frågor har jag inget svar på, men det skapar nya frågor som jag vill ha svar på till nästa säsong.

This morning I went out to one of my hot spots for nightjar for maybe a last try to catch a nightjar. Immediately when I start the playback a nightjar fly right into the mistnet and I could pick out a female born this year.
After that it was almost quietly in the forest but when I should take down the nets a new nightjar has fly in the net. Sadly this nightjar has come from the other side of the net, and when I go forward to the net it start flapping and run away from me.

This morning I try a new site at this time in the year and found a new hot spot for young nightjars.
Earlier in the seasons I have caught older birds in this area, but now I get it a try to young birds.
The site is a rocky height with pines surrounded with a bit older clear cuts and I think is´s be a meetingpoint for birds in the height.
In the dawn 3 young nightjars was trapped in the mistnet among the pines and when they was ringed the sun came up over the trees.

I caught one male and one female. The third bird was unsexed. This is the male.

Some nightjars this morning.

This morning I went out 03:15 a.m to my ringing site in the forest. Already when I put up the three mistnet I could hear som nightjars calling in the dark. After a while I check the mistnet and catch one bird.
When it was ringed and released I wait a while and then go out to the net again. This time it was no birds in the net, but several was flying around among the trees. Soon it´s to bright and the acticity was decrease and when I should put down the net there was two more birds in it. All birds was first year birds from this summer.

 The mistnet site are on a rocky height among the pines and beside a clearing cut.

 The player with decoy are placed among the nets. Usually I place it at the end of net, but now it in the middle of nets.

The nights final ringed bird was N.o. 158 this year and N.o. 406 since the start 2010.

This morning I went out to the forest at 03:00 a.m to catch nightjars before my ordinary work. When I go out from my car I have some nightjars call, wingclap and shurring and I quickly put up the nets and start the playback. After a while I have three nightjars in the net and 4-6 anothers fly around. One of the catched bird go out from the net and i only could ringed two birds this morning.

A few days ago I go out at morning to a nightjar area and try to catch some birds. When I go to the place I saw some nightjars and I have big expectations to catch some this morning.
I put upp two mistnets at the heights and start the player and directly I have 4 nightjars around the nets.
After a while I check the net and have two nightjars in it, one was a bird born this year and the other was older.

Still we catch many nightjars but the shurring activity is bad. The most nightjars be caught in ¨meetingpoints¨ there many birds are flying around at evening and morning. In the middle of the night there are less activity in the forest.
We found some nests and ringed the chicks and try to catch the parents to. Two nights ago we ringed the nestlings in one nest and put up mistnet around. After a while both parents was caught in the net.

A foreign recovery.

Some nights ago I caught a ringed nightjar with unidentified ring. When I checked were he was ringed I got some information about him. Hi was ringed at Ottenby birdstation this spring and now he is in my areas.
Once previously I have caught a foreign bird, and that was my first year with nightjars. That bird was ringed at Utklippan birdstation 4 year Before I Catch him-

Yesterday it was a perfect night for nightjaring. Calm, varm and some clouds do the night perfect to catch nightjars. And it starts very good early in the evening with 3 nightjars before midnight and after midnight 6 more. Totaly 9 nightjars in one night do this night to my best ever and I had much work until the dawn to drive to different place and put up my mistnet in good places.
One of the birds was an old friend from 2010 and I have recover him before over the years. When I ringed him he was a 2:d year bird or older and now hi is over seven year old.

We have found several nest and have now ringed some nestlings to. We have much predation and at one nest we rigged a trailcam and luckily (or not luckily) that nest was predated. When I look at images from trailcam suddenly a Buzzard poses in front of the cam. And to the Pictures after that there was no nestlings left. In the evening the adults came to the nest and found it empty.

 The male was caught to the nest and was a recover from 2013 and was ringed in another place a bit away.

Yesterday I took the help of my daughter when I caught nightjars and she bring luck to me in the forest. Before midnight we had caught five nightjars and if we has a full night we had received several birds and have a new night record. The nightjars was in big activity and it shurring everywhere in the forest but my ordinary work is calling to day and I must sleep a bit to.
To this day we have caught 75 new and recovered 27 nightjars.

Last night was I in a new area and seeking for nightjars. The habitat was perfect in many place but I only hear seven nightjars overnight. Five of these could I catch and I could sum a good night in the sign of nigtjar. On my way home I saw many wildboars and in one place the piglets run on the road when I come driving.

Two nights ago I catch and ringed the threehundred nightjar in my project. It was a big female with large incubation patch so she have eggs in her nest someware.
Yesterday night I look for the nest but not find it and I give it a new try another day.

But I place the mistnet in another area and catch a fine double of nightjar instead. One was unmarked but the other one have both ring and geolocator. This bird was ringed past year and have spending the winter someware in Afrika.

A lot of gnats, mosquitos and nightjars.

The hole nights are full with gnats and mosquitos right now and it´s very thoug to ring nightjars. But the activity of nightjars is good and I have catch several birds. Two nights ago i catch 6 birds and one of them was a recovering from past year. I found a good place to the mistnet and I caught 4 nightjars at same time one after one.

This summer we have caught 46 nightjars to this time and it seems like we go to a record year. This evening have I try to catch my home nightjar from our garden but it looks like he is to far away.
I should go to his area in the nerest days and try to catch him. In 5 years have I catch 3 different nightjars in this Place and I hope it´s one of this birds this year.
Yesterday I catch 2 nightjars before I go home to slep and one of the birds was a recovering from past year in same Place.
